We're Fredrick's Fortunes
We're a group of friends who have been playing dungeons and dragons for years. Every scene in this one-shot was built for our own table first. We really hope you enjoy racing it as much as we did.
Every year the whole valley turns out for the Race to the Summit, a friendly local tradition that stops being friendly the moment the horn sounds. Your players race two rival teams up the Crown, through ridges, ice caverns and a great deal of petty sabotage, for one place at the top.
"Everyone buys weapons. Buy rope. Monsters aren't what kills most climbers."
Hesta Coalbraid, quartermaster
A fun, traditional one-shot with a scoreboard. Every shortcut, slip, rest and act of sabotage moves the standings, and the rival teams keep climbing while your players argue about the route. The lead changes hands all the way up, and the winner is decided on the last climb, not before.
Two rival teams line up beside your players, always matched to your party’s size. Tap a name to meet the competition.
WhoA broad-shouldered giff in brass goggles who calls himself captain. Nobody else does.
Race dayClears obstacles by charging through them, ideally with explosives.

Everything here is built for the same game. Add any of them to this order.
Each team's progress is tracked as it climbs. Clean climbs and shortcuts push a team ahead; rests, slips and sabotage cost it ground. The rivals keep moving while your players rest or debate, so the lead keeps changing. Nothing is decided in advance, and the final climb is a straight race where a team that fell behind can still steal it.
Only if they want to. Racing, bargaining, uneasy alliances and petty sabotage are all fair game, and both rival teams would rather embarrass you than hurt you. Interference is allowed; killing the competition isn't in the spirit of the thing.
2–6 characters at levels 4–6, in one session of three to five hours, with guidance for running it at other levels. The rival teams are always built to match your party's size, so the race stays fair whatever your table looks like. Written for D&D 5e.
