Small companions for your party. Every one starts as a CR 1 familiar and can grow into a CR 20 legend, with 64 stat blocks in all. There's no XP track to manage: the DM decides when a familiar evolves. Designed for our own table first.
"The creature remains recognisably the companion the party has come to know, just considerably harder to fit through a tavern door."
Every party ends up adopting something. These are some options with stat blocks and a legendary form, so the stray your players refuse to leave behind can stand next to them in the final fight.
Every familiar starts at CR 1 and has a CR 20 legendary form. Six have a CR 10 stage in between. Tap a name to see what it grows into.

When the DM says so. There's no experience track or level requirement. A familiar might evolve after a big adventure, a brush with powerful magic, or simply when the campaign is ready for it. It can be permanent, a form it takes only when needed, or something it moves between freely once unlocked.
Mostly DMs, since the DM decides which familiars turn up and when they evolve. Players get a companion with its own stat block and abilities at every stage, so it's worth sharing the page once the party has adopted one.
