So You're Visiting The Plane Of: The Beastlands

The Beastlands is a plane of unrestrained nature, where instinct is virtue, the hunt is sacred, the circle of life between predator and prey is everlasting.

Description

The Beastlands is a vast, layered wilderness embodying the purest ideals of nature within the Great Wheel cosmology. The plane is divided into three great regions that mirror the cycle of the natural world: Krigala, the bright and vibrant daytime realm of open savannas and lush forests; Brux, a twilight land of deep woods and lengthening shadows; and Karasuthra, a moonlit jungle where night reigns and only the keenest senses prevail.

Across the plane, landscapes feel alive and aware. Forest canopies stretch endlessly, mountains rise like ancient guardians, and rivers carve paths through terrain untouched by civilization. There are no true cities here - only clearings, dens, groves, and natural sanctuaries.

Inhabitants

The Beastlands is populated by animals, magical beasts, and nature-aligned beings existing in a state of heightened awareness and intelligence. Many creatures can speak or communicate empathically, and even ordinary animals possess wisdom. Predation exists but is rarely cruel, as hunting is seen as a sacred exchange rather than violence.

Nature spirits, guardinals, fey creatures, and powerful totemic beings roam the plane, acting as protectors of its balance. Great beast-lords (immense, mythic animals embodying their most primal archetypes) hold sway over territories, while wandering spirits guide lost travelers or test those who would claim dominance over the wild.

Adventuring in The Beastlands

Adventuring in the Beastlands is less about conquest and more about harmony with the environment. Survival skills, perception, and respect for natural law are far more valuable than brute force. Creatures that disrupt the balance, such as unnatural predators, fiendish incursions, or reckless hunters, quickly draw the attention of the plane itself. Those who prove they understand the circle of life may find powerful allies, while those who attempt to dominate the wild risk going from the hunter to the hunted.
