Limbo is the raw canvas of existence, an ocean of possibility where thought shapes reality and certainty dissolves into ever-shifting chaos.
Description
Limbo is a storm of creation without restraint: a boundless expanse of swirling elements, drifting landmasses, and fragments of half-formed worlds suspended in a churning maelstrom of potential. Earth melts into water, fire blossoms in empty air, and solid ground can unravel into vapor in the span of a heartbeat.
Gravity exists only where matter touches matter, causing islands of stability to drift through the void like debris on a cosmic tide. Time feels inconsistent: moments stretch, compress, or loop depending on the surrounding turbulence. The sky is not a sky but a shifting mosaic of color, lightning, and raw elemental force.
Inhabitants
Limbo is home to beings who either thrive in chaos or possess the discipline to master it. The slaadi, incarnations of primal entropy, roam the plane as living expressions of unpredictability, while the githzerai carve fortresses and monasteries from the madness through sheer mental focus.
Petitioners and lost souls dissolve into the substance of the plane, their essence occasionally coalescing into strange elemental entities. Powerful outsiders, wandering deities, and reality-shaping entities maintain drifting domains - pockets of temporary stability sustained by divine or psychic will. Mortals who linger too long often find their thoughts manifesting around them, for better or worse.
Adventuring in Limbo
Adventuring in Limbo is less about navigation and more about control. Terrain can transform mid-stride, turning a battlefield into open sky or a calm sea into a storm of razor-edged crystal. Survival often depends on mental resilience: those who can focus may stabilize their surroundings, while the unfocused are swept into the chaos. Successful explorers learn to embrace improvisation, maintain clarity of purpose, and accept that in Limbo, certainty is the rarest resource of all.
