So You're Visiting The Plane Of: Bytopia

Bytopia is a realm split in half; two landscapes looking up on the other.

Description

Bytopia is a unique Outer Plane composed of two vast layers, Dothion and Shurrock, which face one another across a mile-wide expanse of open sky. Each layer has its own gravity, pulling creatures toward its surface, so that towns, forests, and mountains can be seen hanging upside-down above.

Travel between the layers is possible by flight, magic, or by climbing the tallest mountain peaks, to the point where gravity reverses. Light in Bytopia seems to radiate from the space between the layers, creating natural cycles of day and night. At night, the lights of settlements on the opposing layer resemble distant stars.

Inhabitants

Bytopia is home to a wide array of good-aligned celestials, including devas, agathia, hollyphants, and celestial beasts whose intelligence and empathy exceed those of their Material Plane counterparts. Many creatures here display a natural inclination toward cooperation and shared labor, even when defending themselves or their homes.

The plane is strongly associated with gnomes and their deities, whose realms are embedded throughout Dothion. Gnome communities flourish here, embodying Bytopia’s ideals of ingenuity, craftsmanship, and communal effort. Other mortal petitioners who valued cooperation and honest work in life may also find their afterlife here, living peaceful existences as farmers, builders, artisans, or guardians.

Adventuring in Bytopia

Adventuring in Bytopia is less about surviving constant danger and more about protecting harmony. On Dothion, adventurers may find themselves resolving disputes between communities, safeguarding trade routes, defending settlements from external threats, or uncovering subtle corruption that threatens the balance of cooperation.

Shurrock offers more traditional challenges: dangerous wilderness, fierce storms, territorial creatures, and remote settlements that rely on mutual aid to survive. Expeditions often test endurance, teamwork, and the ability to balance individual ambition with collective responsibility.
