The Plane of Acheron is a realm of perpetual conflict, a world where battle is not just common - it is eternal.
Description
Acheron is a plane of endless war, a vast expanse of drifting iron cubes, each the size of mountains, floating in a void of darkness and faint red light. These colossal monoliths slowly drift through the void, moved by unseen cosmic currents. On their surfaces lie battlefields, cities, fortresses, and armies locked in perpetual combat. Rivers of molten metal, jagged cliffs, and shattered towers scar the cubes, while trenches and walls bear witness to conflicts that have raged for eons. The cubes shift, rotate, and occasionally collide, reshaping the terrain in an endless loop. Time and gravity are fluid, tied to each cube’s movement rather than any natural cycle. Horizons tilt unexpectedly, and the surface can rise or fall beneath travelers’ feet. Magic here is unpredictable: destructive spells often strengthen, while support magic falters. The thin, cold air carries faint echoes of clashing steel and the spectral cries of a thousand fallen soldiers.
Inhabitants
The primary inhabitants of Acheron are the spirit legions of Avalas. These are restless spirits of humans, dwarves, halflings, ogres, and countless other soldiers who died in wars long forgotten. For them, war has become an end in itself. They gather with others who share their beliefs or alignment, forming nations atop the surfaces of the drifting iron cubes. They battle to control each block, then join forces to conquer the next when it drifts within reach. Those slain in combat return fully restored within 24 hours, ever ready to fight again. Orc and goblinoid legions share massive cubes and are locked in cycles of siege and skirmish that last centuries.
Adventuring in Acheron
Adventurers who enter Acheron are dwarfed by the scale and chaos of the drifting cubes. They must navigate both the terrain itself and the armies waging eternal war, always aware that a misstep could send them tumbling into the void. Encounters are relentless and unpredictable: combat may erupt at any moment, terrain can shift underfoot, and the presence of the spirit legions and wandering creatures makes the plane as dangerous as it is awe-inspiring. Magic is heightened in destructive or martial applications, while subtlety and support are often futile. Survival depends on skill, adaptability, and an understanding that in Acheron, you can never let your guard drop.
